GST/HST relief set for Dec. 14 to Feb. 15, 2025

The federal government announced this morning a two month GST/HST holiday on a long range of goods, foods, and alcohol beginning Dec. 14 to Feb. 15, 2025. Businesses are expected to remove the GST/HST on qualifying goods at checkout on the first day.
Alliston cemetery seeks variance for larger building

The Alliston Union Cemetery has applied to the Committee of Adjustment for minor variance to permit construction of a storage building and office space with a height of 6.6 metres instead of the maximum permitted height of 4.6 metres in the Open Space (OS) Zone.
Cambridge robbery leads to biker gang arrests, firearms seizure

Four members of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club (MC) and one member of the Red Devils MC have been charged with robbery and a total of 17 firearms, ammunition and other prohibited devices were seized following a September 2024 incident in Cambridge.

Barrie Police responded to the parking lot at 409 Bayfield Street on Tuesday, November 19th. Police made contact with the male inside the vehicle just before noon. At that time, the male discharged a firearm.

Norcross pitches for piece of provincial and federal tax revenues

New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross will ask council tonight to support his call for municipalities to share in proceeds from the Provincial Land Transfer Tax and HST as a "predictable and sustainable source of funding for local infrastructure projects without creating a new tax burden on residents or homebuyers."
