Alliston cemetery seeks variance for larger building

The Alliston Union Cemetery has applied to the Committee of Adjustment for minor variance to permit construction of a storage building and office space with a height of 6.6 metres instead of the maximum permitted height of 4.6 metres in the Open Space (OS) Zone.

The 25 acre, nearly 140-year-old cemetery, is bounded by John Ave, Victoria and Albert street 

 

"The building is setback appropriately from the street and existing buildings on the adjacent properties," according to the planning report recommending the application. "The requested increase in permitted height from 4.6 meters to 6.6 meters is generally compatible with building heights on comparable surrounding properties."
