![]() Town pursing Vince's Market for opening Easter holidayPosted July 3, 2018New Tecumseth is prosecuting Vince's Market in Tottenham, under the Business Holiday Exemption Bylaw, which it alleges the grocery store violated for opening during the recent Good Friday and Easter holiday weekend. For the purposes of the Act, New Tecumseth has a tourism designation, which permits retail businesses to open on holidays with the exception of New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. "This particular case is in regards to a violation of this bylaw," according to a Statement provided by the Town to Free Press Online. "However, we cannot provide specific details as this remains before the courts." Reportedly, New Tecumseth's bylaw department received complaints that Vince's was open on those days. Brian Johns, a partner at Vince's Market, told Free Press Online this morning, they would not be making any comments on the matter at this time. "Right now, respectfully I don't have anything to share," Mr. Johns wrote via email. The Retail Business Holidays Act sets a fine of not more than the greater of $50,000; or the gross sales in the retail business establishment on the holiday on which the contravention occurred.
