Trinity Wright keeps Banting's streak alive

Posted November 14, 2017

Trinity Wright a Gr. 12 student at Banting Memorial High School, and her artwork, "Awareness" will represent the Simcoe County District School Board for the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) Student Achievement Awards.

Wright's piece follows this year's theme: "What's Your Superpower?" a challenge to students to interpret the theme in a personal way. In her artist's statement, Trinity says that her superpower is the ability to see a person's inner character, not just the mask often shown to the world.

Trinity's painting now moves on to the regional level where, if successful, it will be judged at the provincial level in the new year. Winning entries receive $1,000 cash prize.

Banting has a long history of representing the school board in this competition, and has had two previous provincial winners: Hayley Powling in 2013, and Svenja Wyss in 2006.

The Student Achievement Awards, which include writing and creative arts competitions, was established in 1984 and named in honour of Marion Drysdale, who was a secretary at OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Office for 22 years.
