SMCDSB unveils plans for its new school in Alliston

Posted October 11, 2018

The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) unveiled the concept plans for its approved new elementary school to be located in the Treetops subdivision on Willoughby Way in Alliston, last night.

Planning has been underway since the Ministry of Education approved the new school last March, that will accommodate 470 students, and 49 child care spaces, at an estimated cost of about $12 million. Its best case scenario is a 2020 opening.

A boundary review will take place concurrently that will include St. Paul's, Holy Family, and Monsignor J.E. Ronan in Beeton.

The two-storey school building itself is expected to be 47,480 sq. ft. , L-shaped configuration with a chapel located at the front entrance with a prominent cross built into the masonry. It will include four kindergarten and 15 classrooms for the students in grades 1 to 8.  The child care spaces will cover 4,284 sq. ft. over three rooms accommodating infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

The school and child care will be fully accessible.

"The property purchase process is underway, the Phase 1 Environmental Assessment and the Geotechnical Report have  been completed; the results of both indicate no concerns with the site," according to the report to trustees. "Preliminary review of the proposed site plan with the Town resulted in a request for three entrances to the school site to  isolate the bus loop from student drop off/parking area."
