Canada Day ends with numerous charges for Toronto couple

Posted July 2, 2019

A couple from Toronto are facing several charges following a scuffle with bylaw officers that involved a baseball bat after they refused to extinguish an "illegal fire"on Canada Day at a park on Innisfil Beach Road.

South Simcoe Police reported this afternoon the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm yesterday.

"The suspect left the scene in a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed with a female driver and two children," according to police. "Following a brief pursuit on Innisfil Beach Road, the vehicle eventually stopped. The female driver and her male passenger were arrested.  During the course of the arrest, the man threatened two South Simcoe Police Service officers with bodily harm."

A 41-year-old Toronto man is facing numerous charges including four counts of Threaten Bodily Harm, two counts of Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon and several counts of Failing to Comply With Probation. A 42-year-old Toronto woman is charged with Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation.

The woman was released with a future court date and the man was held for a bail hearing. The bylaw enforcement officers were not injured during the incident.
