Peaceful end to 'high risk takedown' at Cookstown outlet mall

Posted June 5, 2018

A reported erratic driver yesterday east of Cookstown ended with the arrest of Jackson's Point man in the parking lot of Tanger Outlet Mall.

South Simcoe Police reported this afternoon a citizen tipped them off to the wayward vehicle, including the license plate, on June 4 at approximately 3 pm in the area of Hwy 89 and Yonge St, making its way into the mall's parking lot at Hwy 89 and Hwy 400.

"Through police checks, officers learned the vehicle had been involved in multiple occurrences in York Region and the driver was believed to be wanted for a raft of charges including flight from police, according to the press release. "South Simcoe Police Service officers formulated a plan to conduct a high risk takedown of the vehicle and occupant in the parking lot."

The 23-year-old driver was arrested without incident and was turned over to York Regional Police. No injuries or property damage were reported.
