Hospital Foundation launches its largest ever fundraising campaign

Posted October 1, 2019

Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) this morning launched its 'Because of you, We can' fundraising campaign, setting a goal of $43 million to meet the local share of financing a planned new facility.

To date, SMHF has received about $20 million in commitments including $10 from Simcoe County, $4 million from Honda's Foundation, $5 million in miscellaneous donations, and $1 million from the Nottawasaga Foundation.

This morning's event featured Sylvia Biffis, Campaign Chair, Executive Director, Nottawasaga Foundation; Jody Levac, President & CEO, SMH; Tanya Wall, Executive Director, SMHF; George Cornell, Warden, Simcoe County; Tom Lake, Executive Vice President, Honda Manufacturing Canada; and Cathy Loblaw, President and CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities (representing T.P.Loblaw and the Loblaw family).

Because of you, We can is SMHF's largest undertaking in its history, and will support the hospital's planned redevelopment project, Health Information System (HIS) and critical equipment needs.

SMH is between the first and second phase of a five stage Ministry of Health approval process which at its conclusion could cost about $12 million to complete. Stage two is developing a functional program. To date, the hospital reports spending over $1.2 million on planning.

The ultimate goal is a new, two-storey, 161,577 sq. ft (gross - more than double its current 71,925 sq ft) at an estimated cost of $166.7 million.
