New Tecumseth's upper tier tax hit climbs in 2017

Posted April 19, 2017

New Tecumseth property taxes directed to Simcoe County, will climb by $1.3 million over last year for a total of $16,118,430, up from $14,813,070 in 2016, according to the County Rates and Tax Ratios for 2017.

That's the second highest increase behind only Bradford West Gwillimbury whose ratepayers will be tapped for $1.6 million more than in 2016. Innisfil remains the largest contributor of tax dollars at $18.2 million, of the 16 municipalities.

The increases reflect the growth in market value assessment in each of the communities, which translates into paying a larger portion of the total levy for County purposes, which this year is $152.4 million.

Innisfil, New Tecumseth and Bradford WG, provide 33.2 per cent of the total.

Penetanguishene, whose mayor Gerry Marshall, is SImcoe County Warden, contributes the smallest share at $2.9 million or 1.94 per cent.
