Three accidents involving school buses this morning, most serious in Innisfil

Posted September 12, 2018

Emergency crews in New Tecumseth, Essa, and Innisfil each dealt with separate collisions this morning involving school buses, the most serious near Alcona where a Nantyr Shores student suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Toronto.

The crash on 5 SR and the 4th Line Innisfil involved a pick-up truck and bus with 14 students on it. The school bus was on its side. South Simcoe Police continue to investigate.

In Alliston, Nottawasaga OPP were called to Tottenham Road at Douglas Drive at approximately 9:45 AM, to deal with a fail to remain collision.

"Investigation revealed that a school bus, no students on board, and no one injured, was travelling northbound when a black pick-up truck, also travelling northbound, struck the left side of the bus. Both vehicles stopped, the drivers had a brief conversation, and then the driver of the pick-up truck left prior to arrival of police."

OPP are looking for a "female, age - mid 50's, black shoulder length hair, and slight build. The black pick-up truck will probably have damage to the right side of the vehicle. There was slight damage to the left side of the bus."

The morning's first incident happened at approximately 8:20 AM, featuring a three vehicle collision, involving a school bus, on County Road 56, at the 5th Sideroad of Essa Township.

"Investigation reveals that a school bus, with one passenger on board, was southbound on County Road 56 in the process of making a left turn onto the 5th sideroad. While making the turn, the bus was struck by a north bound pick-up truck. The pick-up then came into collision with a southbound white vehicle. There was light fog at the time of the crash," according to police. "There were no injuries as a result of this collision. The driver of the school bus has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Careless Driving."
