Former outlet mall store employee charged in perfume theft

A Toronto couple are facing multiple charges following a police raid on their condo unit seizing 655 bottles of perfume reportedly stolen from a Tanger Outlet mall store in Cookstown.

South Simcoe Police reported this morning an investigation into the theft was launched Sept. 18 culminating in a search warrant executed October 11, at a condo in the Don Mills and Lawrence area of Toronto.

The various brands of perfume had retail value of $53,818. Two suspects were arrested.

"Investigation revealed that a former employee of the store was stealing perfume and selling the fragrances online," according to police. "The recovered fragrances were returned to the store owner."

A 34-year-old Toronto man was charged with: Theft over $5,000; Possession of property obtained by crime - trafficking; and Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A 29-year-old Toronto woman was charged with: Possession of property obtained by crime - trafficking; and Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The couple was released with future court dates.
