OPP opens its parking lot as online transaction meeting place

Posted November 28, 2019

Nottawasaga OPP has set aside two of its detachment parking spaces for use as a public meeting place to complete the exchange of goods purchased online.

Dubbed Project Safe Trade, the initiative is designed to thwart fraudulent deals when buying/selling through classified and auction sites by "moving online marketplace transactions away from secluded parking lots or private residences and bringing them into public places."

Constable Katy Viccary, Nottawasaga's Community Safety Officer, told Free Press Online appointments are not required.

"They can simply arrange to meet here, and then do so in our designated parking spaces for Project Safe Trade," said Constable Viccary. "We have two parking spaces conveniently located directly in front of our front doors."

Police are not involved in any way except, "if the transaction becomes a bylaw, provincial or criminal matter."

Nottawasaga OPP is located at 4601 Industrial Parkway in Alliston.
