Dowdall, Yeates approved to take on Leitch in Simcoe-Grey

Posted January 10, 2018

Simcoe-Grey Conservatives will be plunged into their first federal nomination contest since 2010 following the Party's acceptance last week of Terry Dowdall and Gillian Yeates as candidates to challenge sitting MP Kellie Leitch.

Ms. Leitch, first elected in 2011, has 14 days dating back to Jan. 4, to submit her nomination papers.

Reportedly, the cut-off date for memberships to be eligible to vote at the nomination meeting is January 25. It's anticipated the meeting would be held sometime this spring.

Mr. Dowdall is Mayor of Essa, and Simcoe County's Deputy Warden. Ms. Yeates is an OB/GYN in Collingwood.

The next federal general election is in 2019.
