Transition year council cost ratepayers $340k

Posted March 1, 2019

New Tecumseth council swelled to 16 in 2018, including members elected in October, who received approximately $340,000 in salaries, benefits, and expenses, according to the annual statement of remunerations.

Mayor Rick Milne led the list with a total remuneration of $46,043, including $36,866 base salary, and $6,283 payment in lieu of benefits. His expenses were $5,748, including $3,372 for conference registrations and hotels.

Donna Jebb as Deputy Mayor, was next highest at $33,758, including a base salary of $25,461, and $5,765 in health/dental benefits.

Shira Harrison McIntyre led the Ward councillors list at $30,651, including $900 as the member of the LSRCA, and $6,283 in health/death benefits.

A Ward councillor's base salary is $19,752.

Municipal councillors have lost their one-third tax exemption effective 2019, and in New Tecumseth's case, it's expected the pending compensation review report will recommend increase the remuneration rate to fill the gap. Additionally, the review is expected to recommend a further increase in remunerations as part of hikes to senior management salaries.
