Lorusso sisters among class of Outstanding Graduates

Posted May 7, 2018

Twin sisters, Alex and Lindsay Lorusso, who founded Nudnik, a company that designs and manufactures eco-friendly children's clothing, are among the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board's Outstanding Graduates for 2018 representing St. Thomas Aquinas.

The SMCDSB's Our Outstanding Graduates - Where Are They Now, is an annual initiative that honours one graduate from each of its high schools.

Alex and Lindsay graduated from the Tottenham Catholic high school in 2001.

After working for their father's waste management business, the sisters set out to combine their inherent passion for the environment with their love of fashion.

In 2016, they launched Nudnik, which offers a unisex line of children's eco-friendly clothing and accessories that uses 100 per cent upcycled material that otherwise would be destined for landfills. They use adult sweatshirts and t-shirts which are dissected, sewn and screen printed with designs to create unique pieces for kids.

Nudnik has taken off in the few years since being launched and has been featured in media sources like Today's Parent, CBC News, Toronto Life, the Globe and Mail and many more. The girls even received a letter from Sophie Gregoire Trudeau expressing "respect and admiration" for their work.

"In everything we do, we look to redefine possibility, consciousness, and the bonds between our children, loved ones and our Earth."
