Adding 'clarity to a potentially explosive situation'

to the editor,

Posted September 11, 2017

While I certainly appreciate Curtis Sluman's fear and apprehension (letter posted Sept. 8) while crossing at the four corners of Tottenham with his young children, I would like to clarify the law to which he is referring to.

My understanding of the law is that it went into effect in September 2016, and it only pertains to pedestrian (such as those found at the splash pad opposite the playground in Alliston) and school crossings and not to lighted crosswalks.

If cars had to wait at stoplights for every person to be clear of a lighted crosswalks, they would never be able to make a turn.

We have all seen those pedestrians who nonchalantly start their way across even though the No Walking sign is flashing or the light has already turned red.

Just wanted to add clarity to a potentially explosive situation. Thank goodness Curtis was paying attention to the asshat in the white car.
