LCBO opens RFPs for pre-approved agency store locations

Posted September 11, 2019

Existing retailers in pre-approved locations including Everett, Lisle, Glencairn, and New Lowell, have until 2 pm Tues., Oct. 8 to apply for LCBO Convenience Outlet authorizations through a Request for Proposal (RFP) which opened yesterday.

Proposed LCBO agency stores in the local region are on Main Street in Everett; Main Street, Lisle; Glencairn on Webster Road; Switzer St in New Lowell; Airport Road in Mono Mills; and Hwy 50 Palgrave.

Submissions which qualify, will be subject to site visits in November and authorizations issued in December.

"Under the Program, the LCBO authorizes local retailers to sell beverage alcohol in conjunction with other retail goods. LCBO Convenience Outlets sell beverage alcohol to the public at the same prices charged at regular LCBO retail stores, The Beer Store and other retail outlets," according to the RFP guidelines. "However, purchases of beverage alcohol by a Convenience Outlet operator from the LCBO will be at a discounted price. Operators issued an Authorization under this RFP will be able to begin to sell beverage alcohol once they receive their first order of product."

Additonally, retailers in 302 communities interested in becoming authorized to sell beverage alcohol can access the RFP and enter a lottery for each community. "Those selected will be eligible for Convenience Outlet authorizations."

The LCBO expects to have 200 agency stores selling alcohol by spring 2020.
