Crime rate down in first month, but MVCs up 14 per cent including two fatals

There were 77 reported violent, property, and drug crimes in the first month of 2018, down from 116, a 33 per cent drop over the same period last year according to the Nottawasaga OPP's monthly summary to the Police Services Board.

Violent crimes were down 24 per cent led by a decline in assault reports from 20 to 12. But sexual assault reports climbed from two to three, over the same time last year.

There were 51 property crime incidents, down 30 per cent. One break and enter, a drop from six. Fraud reports were up 33 per cent, from 12 to 16.

Drug related offences declined 71 per cent including an 82 per cent drop in possession charges or two, versus 11 in January 2017.

The number of "unfounded" allegations were nine, a 50 per cent decrease.

There were 99 motor vehicle collisions on Nottawasaga OPP patrolled roads in January, up from 87 an increase of 14 per cent, over last year. While the number of personal injury crashes were down from 15 to nine, two were fatal collisions.
