Matthews House secures slice of County grant pie

October 4, 2017

Matthews House in Alliston will receive $600,000 over the next three years in contributions from Simcoe County out of its $1.5 million funding commitement to support four regional hospices and their approved capital projects.

It's money first announced last spring, but recently approved following an October 2 letter from the Simcoe County Hospice Alliance recommending funding allocations for 2017-2019.

"Specifically, the Alliance recommended that the $1.5 million be allocated in the amount of $60,000 per hospice bed as a fair and equitable way of distributing the funds across all capital projects," according to the report to County councillors on next Tuesday's agenda.

Matthews House is under construction on its new $6 million, 30,000 sq. ft, 10-bed  "centre of excellence" at 131 Wellington St. E.

In August 2016, the provincial government announced $420,000 in annual operating funding that will increase to $1.05 million per year once its new facility opens in 2018.
