Baxter subdivision nears groundbreaking

Posted June 3, 2019

Essa council is expected Wednesday night to approve moving forward with an earthworks agreement for the first two phases of Brookfield Homes 253 unit development in Baxter.

An earthworks deal will permit Brookfield to begin its site alterations while continuing to finalize its lot grading, drainage plan, traffic/intersection improvements, and securing the water supply from New Tecumseth.

The "destination" park, at a cost of approximately $900,000, is also expected to begin development during the later stages of the earthworks according to the planning report to councillors on Wednesday night's agenda.

"Staff believes that the subject development is proceeding at a good pace and that entering into the Earthworks Agreement with the Developer will allow the Developer to continue to move towards completion of the development, within a reasonable timeframe," according to the report. "The Township's Engineer supports this authorization at this time and has approved that $347,298.00 is required as a security for the works. The Township currently holds $61,164.80 in security for the Stage 1 Earthworks; therefore an additional $286,133.20 remains to be posted for the securities."
