Elliott's 'coming days' has turned into weeks for SMH
Earlier this month, Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott told
Simcoe Grey MPP Jim Wilson during Question Period her ministry's
approval for Stevenson Memorial Hospital to proceed to Stage 2 of a
five phase capital planning process, was imminent.
"We do hope to
be able to provide approvals to move forward very shortly in the coming
days," said Ms. Elliott on Nov. 5. "I would like to give you a
particular date, but I can say that
that is coming very soon."
Stage 1 approval is a critical step in the approvals chain because it
signals the Ministry has accepted the need and supports the conclusions
of the high level submission.
Last month, the SMH Foundation launched its largest ever fundraising
campaign with a total goal of $43 million, which is the local share of
the estimated $167 million cost to
Rachael Ogorek, SMH's communications officer, told Free Press Online,
"we are confident that we will hear from the Ministry soon re: Stage 1
approval," but, "no further news at this point other than we are just
waiting for the offical word from the Ministry of Health."
David Jensen, the Minister's Media Relations Co-ordinator, told Free
Press Online, "the ministry is continuing to work closely with
Stevenson Memorial Hospital on this proposed redevelopment project,
more updates will be provided when available."
