Teen charged with mischief, assault

Posted May 8, 2017

A 15-year-old female from Cookstown is facing charges of mischief and assault police charge stemming from a Friday night incident that followed after she started a fire next to a residence.

South Simcoe Police reported this morning they were called to an address in Cookstown in the early evening of May 5.

"A homeowner had found a teenaged girl burning a large quantity of papers beside his home," according to police. "He attempted to detain her but she ran off as Innisfil Fire arrived to
extinguish the blaze. Officers searched the area and eventually located the suspect. She kicked the arresting officer several times during the arrest."

The teen was held in custody and will appear in Youth Court for a bail hearing.
