'Gently used clothing store' at Banting to be 'school wide collaborative effort'

Posted November 27, 2018

Press Release - Business Studies at Banting is coordinating a new initiative by introducing a free standing fully functioning gently used clothing store that will be located within the school.

Our goal is to create an environment where students can access the store with the support of Administration or a caring adult within the school so that they can choose items that they not only need but want.

Our social media accounts will showcase items available, therefore students will have the opportunity to direct message the Instagram or Twitter accounts to request particular items. This will ensure a student's privacy and we will arrange a time for them to access the store and shop.

It is a school wide collaborative effort spearheaded by the students of Business Studies. Students in Business studies will be responsible for marketing, social media, inventory, organizing, and coordinating all groups.

As a school wide initiative, Digital Media and Visual Art classes will be creating the logo and signage for the store front, Life Skills will help sort and launder, Grade 11 Peer Leaders and the Grade 12 Leadership classes will help with classroom visits and mentoring younger students, and Technology will assist in store set-up and shelving.

Over the course of the next three weeks, up to and including Wednesday December 19, 2018, we want to collect as many units as possible. We are looking for:
  • Jeans / Pants / Sweats
  • Sweaters / Blouses
  • Hoodies
  • Boots
  • Jackets
  • School bags
  • Running shoes
  • Rolling racks
  • Hangers etc.
  • Unused gift cards ete.
Additionally, the Senior Boys' Rugby team has agreed to any and all manual labour and have also agreed to pick up donations within the community as needed

We would like to have the store fully operational by the end of January. Once the store is operational in semester two we would like to maintain its sustainability by replenishing clothing items as needed and appropriate for each season.

We are hoping for your support and donations. If you have any questions, would like to donate or need to arrange a clothing pick up, please contact Claudia Popp at cpopp@scdsb.on.ca or Doug Henderson at dohenderson@scdsb.on.ca
