Alliston bridge work to continue starting next week

Posted May 17, 2017

Work to complete the $2.65 million replacement of the King Street bridge in Alliston resumes next week including the installation of sidewalks and clean-up along the shoulders.

"We are awaiting an updated schedule from the contractor and therefore cannot comment on when the construction will be completed," according to Julie Scruton, Simcoe County's Manager of Transportation Construction, in an email to Free Press Online. "We do not anticipate the need for a road closure for the remaining works. If needed, traffic would be reduced to a single lane with flag persons."

The King Street bridge, built in 1949, was closed between July and December 2016 and completely rebuilt by Esposito Bros.

Ms. Scruton noted the next phase of the County Road 15 (King Street North) road improvements from Fletcher Crescent north to the Town limits will commence in 2018.

"We are still working to acquire property for the road improvements. Once the property has been acquired, the County will undertake a site preparation contract, relocate utilities and then reconstruct the road."
