Adjala Tosorontio to hold its first meeting Friday to deal with CAO's resignation

Posted December 5, 2018

Adjala-Tosorontio council will meet for the first time this term since being sworn into office yesterday morning to deal with last week's sudden resignation of Township CAO Eric Wargel which was effective Dec. 1.

Mr. Wargel was appointed CAO in May 2010 and a Township employee since 1989.

New mayor Floyd Pinto, who was a councillor last term, and the CAO were often at odds including Mr. Pinto questioning the monthly mileage expenses submitted by the CAO for daily travel to and from the Administration Centre in Adjala and his home. He suggested the monthly claims should have been the same @ 54 cents per km. But some payments ranged between $500 and $700, alleging the claims included personal use of the vehicle.

Friday's special meeting which begins at 9 am, includes an in camera personnel matter.

"The council will have to decide on how to move forward with the CAO position," Mr. Pinto told Free Press Online this morning via email.

The meeting will also include deputations to update the new councillors on employee compensation matters which also were sources of friction last term. They include

Susy Nicols, Mosey & Mosey – Benefits Update;
Heather Hill, Noble Insurance – Liability Insurance Update; and
Issac Tang and James Fu, Borden Ladner Gervais – Post Retirement Benefit Update.

"It is only to update council on these matters as we have many new members of council."
