Councillors keep forensic audit motion alive

Posted March 16, 2017

Adjala Tosorontio councillors voted 4-3 in favour of moving a motion triggering a forensic audit of the Township's books, to their next meeting in April, for ratification.

Mayor Mary Small Brett, Deputy Mayor Doug Little, and Ward 4 councillor Dave Rose voted against the action tabled as a Notice of Motion by Ward 3 councillor Bob Meadows.

"I also put a motion forward to call a point of order on the in camera meeting Wednesday, Feb 15, 2017," Mr. Meadows told Free Press Online. "The agenda for the in camera meeting was to discuss concerns with an identifiable individuals mileage payments that were brought up in recent news articles. We should not have given this individual any car allowance but should have resolved the issue on the agenda. The original mileage concerns still have not been addressed."

Reportedly, Mr. Meadows noted that mileage expenses are no longer being claimed since the matter was raised as a public concern.

Ward 1 councillor Floyd Pinto told Free Press Online, "I also tried to put a motion forward at the beginning of the council meeting to have a judge investigate the Mayor, Deputy Mayor,
Councillor Anderson, Township CAO and Township Treasurer under section 274 of the Municipal Act to determine their involvement if any with these mileage claims but the mayor stopped me and would not accept my motion. This is the second time she has stopped me from
proceeding to put a motion on the floor to get to the bottom of the financial problems in the township."

At this post, Mayor Small Brett was not available for comment. An automatic message reply said she is unavailable until April 10.
